Canvas Days December 2017 has ended

CNDLS and UIS invite you to explore and learn about Canvas, Georgetown’s newest course management platform, at Canvas Days on December 11 & 12. This series of presentations and training opportunities will help faculty and staff prepare to use Canvas, covering topics such as Canvas basics, grading in Canvas, and designing your course in Canvas. Participants may attend in-person in Healey Family Student Center or online using Zoom web conferencing.

Registration instructions:

  • If you have a Sched account, click "Log In" in the upper right-hand corner.
  • If you don’t have a Sched account, fill out your information below or click "Sign Up" in the upper right-hand corner. When creating your account on Sched, please use your Georgetown email and enter the name of your department for "Company Name."
  • Once you log in or create an account, select the sessions that you wish to attend. A schedule reminder will be sent one day before the event.

In this session, Georgetown faculty and instructors will explore why and how  Canvas can enhance learning and engagement in face-to-face courses. Topics covered will include designing a Canvas environment that is both easily navigable and visually appealing, as well as integrating Georgetown supported tools for student engagement. The session will focus on the “why,” that is, we will consider the pedagogical questions behind course organization and tools for student engagement. Facilitators will showcase a range of examples in Canvas across disciplines, course level, and size.                           
Participants will begin the preliminary steps to achieve the following learning goals:
  • Explain the pedagogical benefits of using technology to enhance learning and engagement in face-to-face courses
  • Explore pedagogical strategies for using Canvas to enhance learning and engagement in face-to-face courses
  • Explain the benefits and challenges of using Canvas in face-to-face courses
  • Explain the importance of careful organization and design when using Canvas to supplement face-to-face courses
  • Describe the range of tools available to support learning in Canvas
